Course Description: This course
introduces the students to the biopharmaceutical industry by focusing
on the drug discovery and development process. The course begins
by explaining what a drug is and proceeds through the steps required
discovering a drug and taking it from "bench to bedside."'
After completing this course you will be able to:
- List common categories of the drugs
- Describe all of the phases of drug development "pipeline"
- Explain why currently used drugs only target a small set
of proteins
- Explain how drug discovery has evolved over time
- List the key technologies that are used in modern drug
discovery
- List the major differences between the "old way" and the "new
